Soccer Starts!

So sad to say that I missed Makaila's first game. I currently am working every other Saturday and so I will be missing almost half of her games. I was able to attend the first 2 games. . . but they got rained out. Now the weather was beautiful and I was at work. Here are a few pictures a friend took for me. You may be wondering what the score was- how did they do?

They had fun, but found are there's still a lot to soccer we haven't had time to cover in our 3 practices. The first year HT's played a team who is on their 3rd year of playing together,

so the HT's and coach Chad are getting some good experience to learn from.

Fireman boots

So, my son is nothing if not persistent at this age. I ordered him a fireman outfit for Halloween. It came and he has been loving it. But then he saw a little boy with a pair of "firefighter boots". Since that day there is nothing else he could talk about. Finally we gave in and said if he wanted to use his $10 he got from Gramps for his birthday, we'd pay the rest. He was in. Turns out that paticular day it was difficult to find toddler size 10 fireman rainboots. After checking 3 Targets, we made a trip up to the outlets to get them their. The top picture shows his excitement after he first got them. The bottom picture shows how not only are they his "firefighter boots" but they are also his pirate boots. (no, I'm not showing you the whole costume because I need to save something for the Halloween pics)

Gymnastics

This year Cole is doing gymnastics. It's a good way for 3 and 4-year olds to burn off energy and improve balance.

Soccer

Makaila has taken on the new challenge of playing soccer this year. Unfortunately due to weather, we have not had a game yet. We've had 2 weeks of canceled games due to rain or wet field conditions. But here she is trying out her new soccer gear and in the video she is at practice (she's wearing a purple-pink shirt). As my friend K.P. said, I'm about to embrace my "inner soccer mom". Chad is coaching (along with a friend of ours) so even just going to practice is a family affair.

Rainy days

How do my kids know that it is time to play in couch pillows again immediately after I straightened them? Must be the same way they know the table cloth is clean so it is time to make a big spill during dinner? Could it be connected to the time to eat crackers for snack after I swept the kitchen floor? I love the current weather change of clouds and rain (since school has started and it's still hot), but my kids are going stir crazy being shut up inside all the time. Makaila has had her volume turned on loud and can't hardly sit in her chair for more than 30 seconds. Sure hope we get a chance to go outside and play this weekend!

Family Game Night

We had our first official game night. Do I sound like a Hasbro commercial? After an entire family round of Crazy 8's Makaila has been begging for family game night. We started with Crazy 8's again (Cole is getting the hang of it when he has a partner), then Caraboo, Candyland and lastly magnetic Darts. I think Cole had the most fun with the Darts. He was the only one to get a bull's eye. The kids loved it so much I'm sure we'll be doing more. At least we'll try to as much as we can before they become teenagers and start rolling their eye's at the concept!

Daddy

Makaila was talking about soccer the other day and she said, "The part I like best about soccer is that Daddy is doing it." I asked him if it filled up his tank later and he got a big smile on his face.

Fall soccer

We're starting a new adventure. It is into team sports. Makaila is doing well adjusting to first grade. So we thought we throw some chaos into the mix and add a weekly practice and weekend games. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but her father, who already has a crazy busy schedule is the coach. And we as a family don't quite know the ropes of our soccer association and how this new activity fits into our schedule.

Today was the first day of practice. It is just one of those weeks that we have something going on every night. We came right home and did the snack and homework. This 30 minutes of reading plus other worksheets to do is difficult some days to get in when Makaila and Cole just want to play with each other after being apart all day. But we got threw it and a quick dinner.

The girls were so cute in their shin guards and soccer shoes! Makaila has 4 other girls from her school, 1 church friend and 5 other girls that we are just meeting on the team. The girls are all excited about it now. Only 2 girls have ever played before, so I'm not counting on sweeping the league, but it is quite exciting to see an organized sport come into Makaila's life. Okay, who's bringing the juice boxes for the first game?
