burrito?

When my son says "Arboretum" it sounds just like when he says, "burrito".

strangely nice day

Some days God just gives you what you need. Yesterday I had to go for my annual exam. No woman ever enjoys that kind of thing. I didn't have to wait too terribly long (always a plus with a OB/GYN). The nurse started by complimenting my skin. This past month I have been dreading the nearing of my next birthday and thinking how this year I've really begun to just look older, so it was a great compliment. They talked me into being part of a study the doctor is doing so now I will get paid $40 for the visit I was doing anyways. The play date for my kids got cancelled so I had the opportunity to run an errand at the mall (since kids were with my wonderful husband). I got my ring cleaned, enjoyed a Starbucks and hit a few of the really great sales they were having. I got to go to stores that are NOT entertaining to my kids, infact they didn't even SELL kids' clothing there. And I even got to TRY ON clothes. I walked away with a few purchases (on sale). Including travel time I was only gone from my family for 3 1/2 hours, but it was just what I needed to have a great day. To quote my sister-in-law, "that's the best OB/GYN visit ever!".

lawn mower?

Today we were getting into the car and there was a man next to us getting into the back of his Jeep. For some reason Cole said, "lawn mower". We had just been watching a grass cutter mow the lawn at a park and I don't know if that was the reason. Or in hindsight, maybe there was a lawn mower somewhere near by that I didn't see, but I answer Cole, "that car is called a Jeep". He repeatedly said, "lawn mower". One more time I tried to answer how it may have looked like something else, but it is a car called a Jeep. Cole answered me with a calm but firm voice (as much as possible for a 2-year old), "No, it's not." I was both surprised and amused that he said that.

daddies

Our kids both know that daddies are good for fixing things. Cole was washing his hands the other day when the bar of soap split in half. He goes, "Daddy glue it". I wish everything in life was that simple.

Patience

I am currently being challenged to be more patient. Cole wants to climb up into the car by himself. He wants to buckle the top buckle on his car seat all by himself. These are things I need to let him do so we don't have crying as we leave the house.

I have to be patient to let Makaila pick up her backpack, lunch pack and folders she throws down on the floor when we come home. I feel if I do it, I will always be doing it. I have to be patient for her to tell me about her day when she is ready. She may have had a good day, but she is warn out and needs some time to relax at home first. But if I'm listening, I'll hear little bits and pieces throughout the afternoon and evening to give me a glimpse of her day at Kindergarten. I have to be patient as she is tying her shoes because that is a new skill for her and it needs perfecting.

Thankful

I am thankful. . .

I can stay at home and take care of my kids
For times laughing and tickeling my kids
For vanilla lattes
For quiet times in my house
For kids that play together
That my sister is recovering from surgery and I have 2 new nieces
That it is a beautiful day outside
That my allergies are reminding me I am usually healthy
For a son that is so much fun
For a daughter that is learning so much
For a husband who is a great daddy and provider
For good music
For a car that works
For my bed at night

Mommy time

Cole has been doing pretty well while Makaila is at school. We go to the gym, the park or run an errand. I recently realized he had never painted. So we got out the paints and gave it a try. He quite enjoyed it!
He is also learning new skills. Like jumping. As of recently he can now get off the ground.

He also talks a lot. He says all the normal 2-year old things. No, mine, me do it, my turn, etc. But he also says love you, please, thank you, sissy school, pray me, good job and other fun things. When he washes his hands he says, "scrubby, scrubby". Here is him saying, "scrubby, scrubby bubble".

Special Person

Makaila had a great day last week. She was the girl line leader all week and she got pulled out of the jar to be the "special person of the day". This was quite exciting. Everyone in the class drew a picture of themselves with her. She got to wear the crown all day.
She loves school. But she sure is tired when we come home. She doesn't want to go anywhere. Not even a playground. She just wants to go home and have a snack. She has been really good at playing with her brother when she gets home.
