poor kids

I say poor kids because I almost felt sorry for them this morning. They woke up just happy that it was Friday. Makaila knew she was having a Thanksgiving Feast at school and it was going to be fun. She probably knows that there is a soccer party and b-day party this weekend. Cole was just having fun with his sister. And I was GRUMPY. I woke up to a storm and my coughing from whatever is going on inside my chest right now (and making me have and abnormal voice) at 4:15 a.m. and didn't really get back to sleep. It is no fun to have hyper kids when you are tired and in a bad mood.

Soccer update

The HT's soccer season still goes on. It should be completed by now, but because of all the rain delays we still have 2 more games this weekend. The team has improved and we think they are doing great for their first year playing. Many of the girls want to continue in the spring (hopefully we won't get rained out so much!). We actually scored our first goal! This past week we tied at 1 to 1. Hopefully the controversy of our assistant coach refereeing that game due to lack of a ref won't taint that goal. Our Sunday game ended with a 0, 0 tie after 1 quarter (it was ended due to rain). So now we've got 2 ties in the books. It has been fun. But I think we'll be glad to take a break after this weekend.

Fall leaves

Here are the kids playing in the abundant fall leaves in our neighborhood. Good thing they don't have allergies!

Embarassing Mommy

Ever been embarassed? You know, you are out in public and your child says something with a normal voice about a stranger who can probably hear it and might not understand the background of the statement. I have 2 good ones from going to the gym. Cole is the "Nudity police" as I sometimes call him. If he sees a male jogging or riding a bike he likes to yell out, "he's nudity, nudity" (a word we never used until his cousins educated him on it). He also may say this if he is just lifting up his shirt to show us his tummy. We were walking into the gym and there was a woman wearing a athletic tank top. It was a little more than a sports bra, but more on the lesser side of work out tank tops. Cole made sure to point out, "she's nudity, nudity". More recently we were getting out of the car (at the gym again) and a woman in the next row was getting a child out of her car. She was African American and had a bandanna tied on her head. Cole saw this and goes, "hey, she's being a pirate!" That is the only thing he has ever used a bandanna for obviously. I am hoping that neither woman heard his comment. Most likely, at least one heard.

Music

Yesterday my son actually asked me to turn down my music. Although I think his words were, "can you turn down your IPOD?" I'm sure there will be a switch in a few years.

Grrrr

In the past 3 days I have been growled at 4 times by Cole. It is his current way of showing he is frustrated because I told him to wait or a "no". Of course it is really cute, but I must not show any smile or he will get embarrassed or mad. I almost feel like I have a cub instead of a child.

Rotten?

Cole and I were in one room and we were leaving it to go make lunch. He goes, "last one there is a cotton egg". I guess the kid doesn't really know what a rotten egg is.

Almost done

The bathroom remodel is almost done! Horray! The odds and ends will most likely be finished tomorrow and I can clean away the dust and start putting the kids' stuff back in there. We went to Lowe's for the second day in a row (and like the 5th time in 3 weeks, plus 2 trips to home depot) and I was recognized by the returns lady and Cole was recognized by a guy in the bathroom section. Is that sad that they are starting to know us?

Makaila is excited to not have to go through our room to go to the bathroom and Cole is thrilled to get to take a bath again. Poor kid is just too short for showers. He is cold the whole time and it's aways a pain to rinse out his hair. Plus I think he just misses his bath toys!

Hopping

Makaila just jumped up on her bed and said, "I just hopped up on my bed. You just hop up and then get up really easy."

Taking off the training wheels

So we took Makaila out for a try at riding without her training wheels. She doesn't seem to have the best balance when it comes to things like bikes and scooters. It was a little bit of a frustrating experience for Chad in the video and myself a few days later. It seems to be a little too much for her to pedal, balance and steer all at the same time. What most gets left out is steering. She kind of steers her bike by loosing her balance to one side and the bike going that way instead of her righting herself. She did look so cute doing it. It will be really great to see her get it. Until she master's the skill, it will take strong encouragement from mom or dad to practice! Here's a good video clip though.

Cough, cough

During Makaila's recent swine flu outbreak, Cole was feeling a little left out of the attention she was getting. On more than one occasion, Cole was busting out the fake cough. He did it again tonight when he knew I was out in his hall to let me know he needed more water (a coughing person needs water).

A mystery

When we have been praying recently I have prayed for that the doctors can figure out when Grandpa T will have his surgery and that he will still be able to come to our house for Christmas. Makaila has been into reading/listening to mysteries and Cole is usually listening to them too. After I said that prayer recently Cole said, "Grandpa T is like a mystery". That was of course because of what the doctors were "figuring out" about him!

Halloween

Okay, so if I don't hurry up and get some Halloween pictures on the blog, my parents will start making threats of some sort or another. And of course it doesn't help that little sis had professional pics done and had it blogged before Halloween was over I think! (Thanks for making me look bad, J!)
Our family enjoyed the annual neighborhood Halloween party at the C's house to start of our day. (soccer got rained out due to wet fields, not actually immediate rain- AGAIN) so the day wasn't quite as jam packed. Makaila had just gotten over her being sick that week. And turned out that Cole was just showing some early signs of his Strep throat. Makaila was Lilly from Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, her favorite book by Kevin Henkes. Cole was a fireman. (but in case you wondered, he says he is going to be "Batman for winter"). Cole hit about 6 houses and then he wanted to be done. I don't know if it was the fever coming on or if it was due to his missing his nap that day. We ended up walking around the block, with me carrying him the last quarter of the way home. He did perk up when he got to hand out the candy. But no worries, Makaila made sure to pick up plenty of candy for the both of them to share!

Recovering from the illnesses

Well, we made it through the illnesses at our house. Makaila is back to school and back to almost normal. Just that lingering hacking cough that I've heard lasts 1-2 week beyond the flu. Cole's 3 night fever turned out to be Strep throat. Which I just learned is really going around too. So, after his fever seems to disappeared, now he is on antibiotics. Funny thing is when the nurse was asking me about allergies, I realized that Cole has made it to 3-years old before having his first antibiotic. That's unbelievable now days! I'm quite proud of my kid's immune system.
